Ian Wilson(b. 1988 Harrisburg, PA) earned his MFA in Studio Art from the University of South Florida. A BFA in Studio Art from Appalachian State University. He ran a semi-annual interview project called Der House (DAS HAUS) from 2013-2018. It has been featured in gallery exhibitions nationally.
Ian's work explores boredom in quotidian spaces (work, airports, grocery stores) and the relief of boredom via contemplative spaces (windows, railing, the ocean) through daydreaming, looking, imagination, and fantasy. For him, these are engaging spaces where his mind can rest and become activated as a way to escape the ambient low-level melancholia that comes with the nature of being. Ian paints contemplative spaces and uses parameters to define not only contemplative spaces but as a way to classify them as painterly compositions as well. Through the use of a grid, he reimagines space, color, and shape in a playful and musical way. Each shape is a note and color is a tone. Using a grid as a tool allows him to convey his interpretation of a fantasy, daydream, and contemplation.
